The primary substate is either Maple or Birch, select and better grade sawed and kiln dried in Northern New Brunswick, one solid piece of wood and not a composite material. This wood is then thermally modified which is the basis of the Obsidian series. We then under pressure infuse the wood with a resin mixture in a pressure vessel, not a plastic bag. After a set period of time when we are sure that the resins have penetrated the entirety of the wood we remove it and cure it under heat.
The main goal is to provide an alternative to ebony fretboards but using solid wood and not composite material. Ebony is very difficukt to obtain and the good quality material is even harder to get.
Obsidian Ebony is a man made product, engineered entirely from real, sustainable Maple or Birch wood. It is NOT paper or composite!
It IS impregnated and torrefied to provide very consistent color through out.
