White Spruce

Botanical Name: Picea glauca

Widely distributed in Northern North America, White Spruce is used for piano soundboards. This wood is hard to tell from Red Spruce but is much cleaner and of course "whiter". Construction grade spruce is cheap and easy to find. However, quartersawn clear pieces—free from knots—can be more expensive. These tops are nice and stiff and ring like a bell. Give it a try!
