Also known as Dao, New Guinea walnut, New Guineawood, it originates from Papua New Guinea. Paldao is easy to bend and has a very chatoyant appearance. Tap tone is similar to mahogany. Growing up to 120 feet high and 4 feet in diameter throughout Indonesia and the Philippines, Paldao’s background color varies from light grey to tan, often contrasted with dark stripes and an almost infinite variety of grain and color effects. When cut on the true quarter, the veneer generally has a stripy contrast, often intermingled with a medium to strong mottled figure.
