Botanical Name: (Platymiscium spp.)
Countries of distribution: Brazil, Colombia, Columbia, Ecuador, Guyana, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela. A close cousin to Hormigo with very similar characteristics.
When tapped it rings as well as some of the denser rosewoods. To me it taps a lot like Honduran RW (Dalbergia Stevensonii). Macacauba is an excellant tone wood. Give it a try, you will like it. There may be an occasional pin knot or wormhole on these sets.
